Thailand officially recognizes Palestinian statehood

– Thai foreign ministry spokesman Thani Thongphakdi said the recognition ”has been under consideration for some time”.

”We felt that now was an appropriate time to proceed with the recognition of the state of Palestine, which was done earlier this week,” he told AFP.

Mr Thani said the move was unrelated to the recent charging of a Lebanese man suspected of planning an attack in Bangkok, who had alleged links to the Iranian- and Syrian-backed Muslim Shiite group Hezbollah. [Bangkok Post]

Iceland recognises Palestinian state

Iceland has become the first western european country to recognise Palestine as an independent state.

The Icelandic parliament said in a statement on its website that it had passed a motion with 38 of 63 votes in favour of a resolution to recognse Palestine “as an independent and sovereign state” based on borders predating the six-day war of 1967.

“Iceland is the first country in western europe to take this step,” Ossur Skarphedinsson, the minister for foreign affairs, told RUV, the Icelandic national broadcasting service. He said the vote had given him the authority to make a formal declaration on the government’s behalf, but before doing so he would discuss the move with other Nordic countries.

The resolution, which coincided with the UN’s annual day of solidarity with the Palestinian people, recognised the Palestine Liberation Organisation as the legal authority for a Palestinian state and urged Israel and Palestine to reach a peace agreement. [Associated Press]

Say Stop

– I do not understand why the world still does not put an end to what is happening between Israel and Palestine. Israel has repeatedly abused, murdered, thrown out innocent Palestinians from their homes, and all are quiet and do not dare to speak out.

I’m not anti-Jewish or -Israelis, I am not judging people based on their religion or ethnicity, never, because believe me there are many Israelis and Jews who themselves believe this to be wrong. I would have been anti-Palestine if they did so against the Israelis. I am in favor of a free society, where your ethnicity does not determine where you are going to live or whether you should be shot or not. Certainly there are Palestinians throwing stones, who sends rockets, and behave like idiots, I’m against them too because I am absolutely against innocent murder, but somehow people need to understand.

If immigrants in Sweden came and took over and threw out the Swedes out of their homes, would you not do the same? … [Ana Gina, on her own blog]

From Russia with Love

– I maintain that Israel has agents of influence targeting Russian public opinion, and some of them purposefully work to incite anti-Muslim sentiment and generally instigate ethnic and religious enmity within Russia. People like Satanovsky, Eskin and other shills seek to drag Russia into the fight on Israel’s side by promoting the “common destiny” narrative, and by pitting Russians against Muslims.

Should they succeed, Russians may fall out with a whole lot of their long-time neighbors and fellow countrymen, including the numerous ethnic groups in the Caucasus, Central Asia and Russia’s steppe regions, who all share Islam as their religion. This would lead to a dramatic split between Russia and the entire Muslim world, undermine its record as a unique historic project based on a dialogue of civilizations, derail Russia from its path of independent development, and make it utterly dependent upon Israel and its Western sponsors, whose ultimate goal is to have Russia partitioned and sucked dry of its enormous natural resources. “and then you win”

United Nations, October 01, 2011

India came out in all out support for a Palestinian bid for membership of the United Nations as a Security Council committee met behind closed doors to begin considering its application. Underscoring New Delhi’s support of the Palestinians’ bid, India’s Permanent Representative Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday recalled that his country was the first non-Arab state to grant recognition of a Palestinian state when it did so in 1988.

“We look forward to welcoming Palestine as an equal member of the United Nations.”

– I had an idea that performing in Israel would have been a unique opportunity to encourage and support my fans’ opposition to the current government’s actions and policies. I would have personally asked my Israeli fans face-to-face to fight this apartheid with peace in their hearts, but after much deliberation I now see that it would be more effective a statement to not go to Israel until this systemised apartheid is abolished once and for all. Therefore I publicly retract my well-intentioned decision to go and perform in Israel and so sincerely hope that this decision represents an effective statement against this regime.
